THE AWAKE FIELD presents Ron’s reflections upon his recent 2-year sabbatical in a small coastal town in southern Rhode Island. The book is broken down into 6 distinct chapters that reflect upon different aspects of small town life. Mysterious creatures float through page after page of lush landscape drawings in the title chapter of THE AWAKE FIELD. A fairytale is pantomimed by the rocky seashore in “The Hazard Rocks.” A dance routine is presented in 8 cartoon pages as “Finding Privacy in the Hypnotist’s Ballroom.” A bible quote is found on a hamburger wrapper, and illustrated in “Revelation 3:20.” The book concludes with two collaborative works by Ron and Becky Stark. We are given 16 installments of Ron and Becky’s surreal humor series “Peace Comics,” as well as their first collaboration “An Introduction to The Mystical Union of Souls,” which lays out their plans to find and create peace on earth.
